Why Do People Travel

People love to travel! I don’t mean holidays but extended travel to locations that are different, out of the ordinary. People love to talk about travel, they love to read about travel, they love to watch films about travel.  At ‘Travels of an Earth Pilgrim‘ I love to write about it. But do they, in fact, actually travel?

What do I mean by travel? Clearly 2/3 week holidays just don’t count. We all have those, even people who are travelling.

Trips

So trips are the basic minimum. To me a trip is at least a three month travel to somewhere that cannot be described as home for you. Ideally it should be to more than one place and might involve some hardship. This is something that a lot of people talk about doing, and even sometimes achieve. People take an extended break from work, but don’t actually leave their job. They plan is carefully and spend lots of time talking about it. Before they know it, it’s over and they are back at work boring people with thousands of digital photos of them in places they’ve forgotten the names of.

RTW

Then there is RTW, ‘Round the World’ or, as I call it, ‘Return to Work’. Someone planning this usually thinks they can pay for it with a ‘Travel Blog’. It will be so easy to take cool pictures and post them every day. To recommend great places to go and tell people all about who they met on they way and what gear they used. With advertising, free gear and affiliate products that should be a cinch. I read one travel blog, recently that finshed even before the trip began. The guy was bored once he had finished the cool design…

Location Independence

This is my kind of travel. Sell the home, give away the possessions and go where the wind blows. I did this two years ago and am still going. Currently I am living in Spain, house-sitting a great place in the mountains of Andalusia. It’s free and I am even planning to earn money from events here. It takes courage, you need to be a self-starter, but I can thoroughly recommend it.

Go to ‘Why People Don’t Travel‘ to see a great video on the reason people DON’T travel.

Bringing unity in Cape Town through sport

June 16, 1976 is known as the Soweto Uprising in South Africa when black youths were rioting because of the fact they refused to learn Afrikaans, which is very understandable since they already had to learn English. South Africa played against Uruguay  on the 16 June 2010. The 16 June is now celebrated as youth day. The fact that South Africa played on this day is of great significance, playing in front of the world with fans of all races united singing the national anthem in unity. Unfortunately South Africa didn’t come out tops, but fans stood by them.

A similar situation showing where sports brings a sense of unity was when South  Africa hosted the Rugby World Cup in 1995. The country then was very new, just coming out of apartheid, but in the last couple of years  South Africa has been through some crazy times.

This was not about winning the game, but about witnessing the game of how youths were playing together against another nation on this historical day in front of thousands of people.

Cape Town has come a long way. During the world cup Cape Town hotels were packed and the Cape Town waterfront was the place to be. A Cape Town holiday is a fantastic place to take the family. It would be a relaxing vacation and at the same time kids would get a good education into the history behind the country. Many missionaries comes to this beautiful city to do an outreach because there are still millions of people that are in need of help just like in any other country.

Since the reign of president Nelson Mandela came to an end there have been upsets as there always are in politics and they are often blown out of proportion, to the extent that they become hilarious in newspapers across the world. Hopefully hosting this World Cup will change the thinking and ways of many people.

Top 10 things to do in Cape Town

Round the World Trips – Great Experiences!

Traveling is something what everyone should do. Seeing new places, meeting new people and experiencing different cultures teaches you so much that you will never look at the world the same way again after your trip. Round the world trips are a great way to travel for an extended period of time and see different corners of the world.

Round the world (RTW) tickets are something to consider for a longer trip. They can be a relatively cheap option for a traveler who wants to travel for a full year. The idea is that you buy a ticket which lets you take a certain amount of flights during your travels. All the main airline alliances offer their own round the world tickets and there are also some travel agencies specialized in world trips.

With a round the world ticket, you can travel almost anywhere, but the specific rules and locations depend on the ticket you choose. You can either visit some popular tourist destinations or choose to take the road less traveled and visit some far-away spots most travelers don’t go to.

Since the ticket options all have their pros and cons, you have to find the one most suitable for your needs. When choosing a round the world ticket, think about these things:

  • What is your budget?
  • Where would you want to go?
  • For how long you are hoping to travel?
  • Do you prefer to plan the trip yourself or have someone else do it for you?

When setting up your trip, use the tools provided by the airline alliances. It is good fun to look at the world map and see all the places where the your round the world travels can take you! However, once you start booking your flights for real, you might notice that you will have to change your plans or find alternative solutions for some legs. It is possible to travel from one place to another without flying (or without taking a flight included in the RTW ticket), but at least with some companies this so-called “surface sector” still counts towards the total number of legs. In the end it is not a big deal to change your itinerary, since one world trip is far from enough to see everything out there. Dropping something off your itinerary just means that you will have some other adventures elsewhere!

Since there are so many rules and regulations, you might feel confused in the beginning when reading about the tickets. The travel agencies and airlines are extremely helpful, so don’t hesitate to ask for advice.

How to Get the Best Cruise Prices

Hi. Bob Levinstein from www.CruiseCompete.com here—where travel agents compete to offer you the best cruise deal. While many people think of cruising as a high-end luxury that only the very well-off can afford, its actually one of the most affordable vacation options out there. Your cabin, all of your meals and much of your entertainment is provided for as little as $50-$100 per person per day. Here a few simple tips for getting the best price on your cruise 1. Cruise when most kids are in school. As less demand equal lowers prices, cruise when other can’t. 2. Book either far in advance or at the last-minute (ie, 3-6 weeks out)—as these are the times when the best deals can be found. 3. Surf the web for deals. This will help you the sailings with the lowest demand, but don’t buy at the price advertised. As cruise lines only let agencies promote retail prices, you can do better. 4. Once you find a sailing you like, you need to get custom quotes directly from agents. You can contact each agency yourself, or you can put a quote request into CruiseCompete and let the agents come to you with their best offers. 5. When you compare offers, always make sure youre comparing apples-to-apples. While all CruiseCompete quotes include all charges to make them easy to compare, many sites dont add all charges until the final booking screen. Also, consider the value of onboard credit provided for your cruise especially on Royal Caribbean-owned lines. An extra $100 in your onboard account

Think Lake Eufaula Oklahoma For Your Next All Inclusive Vacation

If your Summer vacations consist of getting away from the rat race and enjoying the outdoors, then take a look at the Lake Eufaula area of Oklahoma. Lake Eufaula is an expansive lake sprawling out over several counties in South East Oklahoma. It’s only a short drive from Tulsa, about a two hour drive from Oklahoma City and a two hour or so drive North of Dallas Texas.

The area around Lake Eufaula is rich in history. Much of the area’s past can be traced back to prehistoric times. There is even evidence that Vikings may have visited the area. The Heavner Runestone is the best evidence to date of this.

If History isn’t your forte, then how about some awesome fishing? Lake Eufaula is nationally known as a great Black Bass lake. It’s also known for it’s 3 pound plus Crappie as well a big numbers of Blue, Channel and Flathead Catfish. Huge Stripers as well as the other mentioned fish can be caught below Eufuala dam, so come prepared to battle your favorite fish! To ensure that you have a successful fishing trip, it’s recommended you hire an experienced Lake Eufaula fishing guide.

The Corps of Engineers controls most of the parks and campgrounds around the lake. There is something for everyone. Whether you like to rough it in a tent in a primitive campground or your idea of roughing it is a modern cabin, you can find it on Lake Eufaula. There are many all inclusive vacation Resorts scattered around the lake. Packages vary by resort, so check each one until you find the one you want.

If your idea of fun is shopping, then you’ll love the towns and cities around the lake. Since the area is rich in History, it also is a rich area for Antiques. Many dating back to the time Oklahoma was Indian Territory.

Also, if you’re one who doesn’t like crowds, you’re going to love Eufaula. Due to it’s huge size, there’s plenty of areas to visit so no one place becomes crowded. It’s not uncommon to share a lakeview camping area in the Summer months with only you and the wildlife!
